Description
The Staghorn Damsel, named for its distinctive, branching pattern of green, yellow, and black on its body, is a resilient and attractive fish that brings a vibrant touch to marine aquariums. This damsel’s sturdy nature and easy care requirements make it a popular choice for beginner aquarists. Although it displays a semi-aggressive temperament, it is manageable when housed with other semi-aggressive or peaceful species in a well-spaced tank.
Originating from reef environments, the Staghorn Damsel is reef-compatible and can be kept with a variety of corals and invertebrates. It thrives in tanks with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging, providing it with naturalistic conditions that encourage its active behavior. While it is generally peaceful with larger tank mates, it may show territorial behavior towards other damsels, especially in smaller aquariums.
As an omnivore, the Staghorn Damsel will accept a wide range of foods, including marine flakes, pellets, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. A varied diet will help maintain its bright colors and ensure its overall health.
