Description
The Sunset Butterflyfish (Chaetodon pelewensis) is a stunning marine fish species recognized for its intricate color patterns. Its body displays a vibrant yellow background with distinctive black spots and wavy stripes, creating a sunset-like appearance. This peaceful species is found in the shallow coral reefs of the Pacific Ocean and thrives in a well-established aquarium with plenty of hiding spaces and live rock. Though the Sunset Butterflyfish is generally peaceful, it requires careful monitoring in reef tanks, as it may occasionally nip at corals and small invertebrates. This species does well in community tanks with other peaceful fish but should not be housed with overly aggressive tankmates. Its diet consists of a variety of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, and also plant-based foods, as it is an omnivore. The Sunset Butterflyfish is moderately difficult to care for due to its dietary needs and the maintenance of water quality. It is best suited for intermediate aquarists with experience in maintaining stable marine conditions. Approximate Purchase Size: 3″ to 5″
