Description
The Thompson Tang, also known as the Blue-Lipped Tang or Blue-Lined Surgeonfish, is a beautiful and active marine fish known for its sleek, blue-gray body. With a streamlined shape and subtle coloring, this tang adds elegance and movement to larger reef or fish-only aquariums. Though generally peaceful, it may exhibit semi-aggressive behavior, particularly towards other tangs or similarly shaped fish, especially in smaller tanks.
Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, the Thompson Tang thrives in well-established aquariums with plenty of live rock for grazing. As an herbivore, it requires a diet rich in marine-based algae and seaweed to support its digestive health and maintain vibrant coloration. Offering foods such as dried seaweed and spirulina-enriched pellets will help fulfill its dietary needs.
The Thompson Tang is reef-compatible and generally safe around corals and invertebrates, making it a good choice for reef setups. However, due to its active swimming habits and need for grazing territory, it is best kept in a spacious tank with ample hiding spots and open swimming areas.
