Description
The Tobacco Basslet is a small, colorful fish with a unique combination of orange, brown, and white markings. Its distinct pattern, along with its vibrant body color, makes it a fascinating addition to a marine aquarium. Native to the Caribbean and the Atlantic, the Tobacco Basslet is known for being a hardy and easy-to-care-for fish.
This basslet thrives in aquariums with plenty of hiding places, such as live rock formations, where it can retreat when feeling threatened. Although it has a semi-aggressive temperament, it is generally compatible with other fish and invertebrates, making it a suitable choice for reef tanks. However, caution is advised when housing it with smaller, more passive species, as it may show territorial behavior.
A carnivorous species, the Tobacco Basslet should be fed a varied diet of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and small pieces of seafood. It can grow up to 4 inches in length and is best suited for aquariums with a minimum capacity of 30 gallons. Its striking appearance and hardy nature make the Tobacco Basslet an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists.
