Description
The Gold Rim Tang (Acanthurus japonicus), also known as the Whitecheek Surgeonfish, is a striking fish known for its black body accented with a golden-yellow rim around the fins and a distinct white spot near its face. This bold coloration makes it an attractive addition to larger aquariums, where it can swim freely and showcase its natural beauty.
Gold Rim Tangs are active swimmers and require a spacious tank with plenty of open areas as well as hiding spots. As semi-aggressive fish, they may display territorial behavior towards other tangs, so introducing them into a tank with similar-sized, peaceful fish is recommended.
Primarily herbivorous, the Gold Rim Tang thrives on a diet rich in marine-based algae and vegetable matter, which supports both its health and vibrant coloration. This species is generally reef compatible, making it a good candidate for a reef aquarium, though it may need regular monitoring for any aggressive interactions with other tankmates.
