Description
The White Eye Eel, named for its characteristic white-rimmed eyes, is a striking and unique addition to larger marine aquariums. With its mottled brown coloration and sinuous body, it makes an intriguing display specimen, often hiding in crevices and only partially emerging to observe its surroundings. This species is best suited for experienced aquarists who can accommodate its specific needs.
Native to Indo-Pacific reefs, the White Eye Eel requires a spacious tank with numerous hiding places made of rocks and PVC pipes, as it prefers to conceal itself. While it can coexist with some tank mates, caution is advised, as it may prey on small fish or invertebrates. Therefore, it is best kept with larger, non-aggressive tank mates.
As a carnivore, the White Eye Eel thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as silversides, shrimp, and squid. Feeding it with long tongs or skewers is recommended, as eels may have poor eyesight and can accidentally bite if hand-fed.
