Description
The Yellow Anthias (Squareback Female) (Pseudanthias pleurotaenia) is a brightly colored and elegant addition to a marine aquarium. With a radiant yellow-orange body and a lighter underbelly, this fish stands out in any reef setting. The Squareback Anthias is known for its peaceful temperament, making it an excellent choice for both community and reef tanks.
Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, the Yellow Anthias thrives in large aquariums with plenty of swimming space and rocky hiding spots. While it is generally peaceful, it requires proper care and feeding. Anthias are carnivores, and they feed primarily on zooplankton in the wild. In captivity, they should be offered a diet rich in meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.
The Squareback Anthias is reef compatible and generally poses no threat to corals or invertebrates. However, they prefer to be kept in groups, as this mimics their natural schooling behavior in the wild. A tank of at least 125 gallons is recommended for a small group to ensure ample space for swimming and social interaction.
