Description
The Yellow Dottyback (Pseudochromis fuscus) is a striking, bright yellow fish that adds a vibrant splash of color to any marine aquarium. This small, hardy fish is a favorite among beginners and experienced aquarists alike due to its easy care requirements and adaptability to different tank environments. Though it’s generally peaceful, the Yellow Dottyback can display semi-aggressive behavior, especially towards other small, similarly shaped fish, so it is best housed with species of different sizes or temperaments.
Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, the Yellow Dottyback appreciates a tank setup with plenty of rockwork and hiding spots to satisfy its natural territorial tendencies. Despite its carnivorous diet, which includes small invertebrates in the wild, it is reef compatible and can safely coexist with corals and other reef inhabitants without posing a threat.
As a carnivore, the Yellow Dottyback thrives on a diet of meaty foods, including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. It adapts well to prepared foods and should be fed a varied diet to maintain its health and color. Reaching a maximum size of 3″, the Yellow Dottyback requires a minimum tank size of 30 gallons to accommodate its active, exploratory nature.
