Description

The Coral Hawkfish (Cirrhitichthys aprinus), also known as the Spotted Hawkfish, is a popular choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its striking spotted appearance and easy care requirements. Its body is adorned with red spots on a white to pinkish base, making it a visually appealing addition to any reef setup.

These fish are known for their semi-aggressive temperament, often perching on coral or rocks, surveying their surroundings. Although they are generally peaceful with other species, they can exhibit territorial behavior towards smaller fish or invertebrates, making them best suited for tanks with similarly sized tankmates. Coral Hawkfish are carnivorous and thrive on a diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or small fish.

While they are considered reef-compatible with caution, it’s important to monitor their interactions with smaller invertebrates. Providing plenty of hiding spots and live rock helps reduce territorial aggression and gives them ample space to perch.
