Description
The Evansi Anthias (Pseudanthias evansi), also known as the Expert Only Anthias, is a stunning fish with vibrant hues of pink and yellow, accented by subtle blue highlights along the fins and black edging on the tail. Its striking coloration and peaceful demeanor make it a desirable addition to reef aquariums, though its care is best left to experienced aquarists due to its specific dietary and environmental needs.
This species hails from the Indo-Pacific and is a planktonivore, meaning it primarily feeds on zooplankton in the wild. In captivity, it requires frequent feedings of small, planktonic foods such as rotifers and cyclopeeze. Due to its feeding habits and delicate nature, it thrives in large, well-established tanks with plenty of hiding spots and calm water movement.
The Evansi Anthias is reef compatible and generally poses no threat to corals or other invertebrates, making it a safe and peaceful choice for community reef setups. However, it is recommended to house these fish in groups to mimic their natural schooling behavior, as this helps reduce stress in the aquarium. A tank of at least 125 gallons is essential to accommodate multiple Anthias and provide them with ample swimming space.
