Description
Forsten’s Parrotfish (Chlorurus forsteni) is a large and colorful species known for its peaceful demeanor and vibrant hues, often showing a blend of green, blue, and pink on its scales. Native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region, this parrotfish is a unique addition to large marine tanks due to its vivid appearance and active nature.
In the wild, Forsten’s Parrotfish uses its beak-like teeth to scrape algae off rocks and coral, a behavior that can help manage algae levels in the aquarium but may pose a risk to live coral, making it reef compatible with caution. It requires a spacious tank with plenty of live rock to graze on and maintain its health.
Diet should primarily consist of marine algae, seaweed sheets, and specialized herbivore pellets to support its dietary needs. For optimal coloration and health, supplement its diet with Spirulina and vitamin-enriched vegetables.
