Description
The Hector’s Goby (Koumansetta hectori) is a small but striking fish known for its vibrant yellow and blue horizontal stripes that run along its sleek, slender body. This peaceful and reef-safe species makes an excellent addition to nano and larger reef tanks alike, thanks to its manageable size and easy-care requirements. Hector’s Goby is also appreciated for its unique sand-sifting behavior, which helps keep the substrate clean.
This species is extremely peaceful and does well in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish. It is also safe with corals and invertebrates, making it a perfect candidate for reef aquariums. Hector’s Goby prefers an environment with plenty of live rock and hiding spots where it can retreat and explore.
An omnivore, Hector’s Goby has a varied diet, feeding on small crustaceans, algae, and other microscopic foods it finds in the substrate. In captivity, it can be fed a diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods like brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. Due to its small size and active nature, feeding small amounts multiple times a day is ideal.
Reaching a maximum size of around 2 inches, Hector’s Goby can thrive in tanks as small as 10 gallons, making it a popular choice for nano aquarium enthusiasts. Its beautiful colors, peaceful nature, and beneficial sand-sifting behavior make Hector’s Goby a charming and practical addition to any reef or community aquarium.
