Description
The Lobster Dozer, also known as the Slipper Lobster, is a fascinating addition to a marine aquarium with its unique, flattened body and armor-like shell. Unlike the traditional lobster, this species lacks large claws and instead uses its powerful front legs to forage and “bulldoze” through sand and rock in search of food. Its behavior and distinctive appearance make it a captivating specimen for aquarium enthusiasts.
This lobster is semi-aggressive and can pose a threat to smaller fish and invertebrates, so it’s best suited for a tank with larger, more robust tankmates. The Lobster Dozer requires a spacious aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and a sandy substrate to accommodate its digging behavior. Feeding is straightforward, as it readily accepts meaty foods such as shrimp, fish, and various marine invertebrates.
Though it may be challenging to maintain in a community reef tank, the Lobster Dozer can thrive with appropriate care and habitat setup, making it a unique addition for experienced aquarists.
