Description
The Splendid Garden Eel, or Gartenia splendens, is a visually striking species characterized by its vibrant coloration and graceful movements. Typically found in sandy substrates, this eel can grow up to 12 inches in length and exhibits a peaceful demeanor, making it an excellent choice for community tanks.
These eels thrive in environments where they can partially bury themselves, leaving only their heads exposed. This behavior provides them with a sense of security and allows them to feed efficiently on plankton and small particles in the water column. Their diet primarily consists of live or frozen foods like mysis shrimp and finely chopped seafood.
While the Splendid Garden Eel is considered reef compatible, it is important to provide a suitable environment with plenty of hiding spots and gentle water flow. It is best kept in groups, as they tend to display natural behaviors when surrounded by their own kind. However, caution should be taken when introducing other species, as they may exhibit shyness around more boisterous tankmates.
