Description
The Blue Indigo Hamlet (Hypoplectrus indigo) is a stunning and hardy marine fish known for its deep blue coloration and striking vertical stripes. Native to the Caribbean and Western Atlantic, the Indigo Hamlet is a popular choice for saltwater aquarists due to its vibrant appearance and relatively easy care requirements. This semi-aggressive species can be housed in a reef aquarium, where it generally coexists well with corals and invertebrates, although care should be taken when choosing tankmates, as it may show aggression towards smaller fish. The Blue Indigo Hamlet is an excellent hunter, feeding primarily on small invertebrates and fish in the wild. In captivity, it thrives on a carnivorous diet that includes meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood. This species is relatively easy to care for, making it a great choice for intermediate aquarists looking to add a striking fish to their tank. Due to its semi-aggressive nature, the Indigo Hamlet does well in tanks with plenty of hiding spaces and rockwork. Although it is generally reef-compatible, it may be territorial, especially towards other similar-shaped fish. Approximate Purchase Size: 2″ to 4″
