Description
The Borbonius Anthias (Odontanthias borbonius), commonly known as the Blotchy Anthias, is an eye-catching species with a pinkish-purple body marked by irregular bright yellow blotches. Known for its stocky form and peaceful temperament, it is a popular choice for aquarists looking for a unique and vibrant addition to their reef tanks.
Native to deeper reefs, the Borbonius Anthias prefers a well-established aquarium with plenty of hiding spaces and live rock. Though peaceful, it can be slightly shy at times, and it benefits from being housed in a large tank of at least 125 gallons to accommodate its active swimming behavior.
As a carnivore, the Borbonius Anthias feeds on zooplankton in the wild. In captivity, it requires a diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other finely chopped meaty foods. Multiple feedings throughout the day are recommended to maintain its health and vibrant coloration. Reef compatible, this species poses no threat to corals or invertebrates, making it a suitable addition to peaceful reef setups.
