Description
The male Flame Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus jordani) is a visually stunning wrasse species renowned for its vivid red, orange, and yellow coloration, making it a showpiece in any marine aquarium. Found primarily in the Hawaiian Islands, this fish displays a much more vibrant color palette compared to its female counterpart, which intensifies during courtship displays or when asserting dominance.
This peaceful species is highly suitable for community and reef aquariums, as it is safe with corals and invertebrates. Flame Wrasses are active swimmers and do best in tanks with plenty of open space along with rock formations and coral structures for hiding and exploring.
As a carnivore, the Flame Wrasse requires a diet rich in meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other high-quality frozen or freeze-dried options. Regular feeding will support its color vibrancy and overall health.
Like most wrasses, the Flame Wrasse is a known jumper, so a tightly fitted lid is essential to prevent escape. A tank size of at least 55 gallons is recommended to provide ample room for swimming and prevent territorial behavior.
