Description

The Harlequin Tusk (Aussie) (Choerodon fasciatus), originating from the coral reefs of Australia, is a vibrant and highly sought-after marine fish known for its striking coloration. With bold, alternating bands of orange and blue across its body and distinctive blue-tipped tusks, this fish brings a unique visual appeal to any saltwater aquarium. The Australian variant of the Harlequin Tuskfish is especially prized for its more vivid coloration compared to other regional varieties.

The Harlequin Tusk is semi-aggressive and can display territorial behavior, especially with smaller or more docile tank mates. Although it is generally safe in a reef aquarium with caution, it may pose a threat to small crustaceans and other invertebrates due to its natural hunting instincts. It does well in a spacious aquarium environment with plenty of hiding spaces among rocks and open swimming areas.

As a carnivore, the Harlequin Tusk requires a diet rich in meaty foods, including shrimp, squid, and other marine-based proteins. Regular, varied feedings are essential to support its health, growth, and vibrant colors. This species is relatively hardy but is best suited to experienced aquarists who can provide stable water conditions and a balanced diet.

With a maximum size of around 10 inches, the Harlequin Tusk requires a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. Its stunning appearance, robust build, and semi-aggressive temperament make it an eye-catching choice for marine enthusiasts looking to add a unique species to their aquarium.
