Description
The Lyretail Hogfish (Bodianus anthioides) is a striking marine fish known for its unique coloration and lyre-shaped tail. The body is primarily white, with distinct red spots and a vibrant yellow-orange head. Its impressive dorsal fin also has shades of yellow. This fish is a semi-aggressive species that requires careful tankmate selection.
Lyretail Hogfish are carnivorous and thrive on a diet of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood. While they are generally reef-safe, caution is advised, as they may nip at smaller invertebrates. They are active swimmers and need ample space in the tank to roam, making a 70-gallon tank the minimum requirement. This fish is best suited for intermediate aquarists due to its size and semi-aggressive behavior.
