Description
The Raccoon Butterflyfish (Chaetodon lunula), named for the black “mask” marking that resembles a raccoon’s face, is a strikingly beautiful fish with vibrant yellow, black, and white coloration. Native to the Indo-Pacific reefs, this species is relatively hardy, making it a great choice for intermediate marine aquarists. While generally peaceful, the Raccoon Butterflyfish may show aggression toward smaller, more passive species and should not be housed with aggressive fish. It is considered reef compatible with caution, as it may nip at soft corals, anemones, and small invertebrates. The Raccoon Butterflyfish thrives in large, well-established aquariums with plenty of swimming space and rock formations to explore. As an omnivore, this species requires a varied diet consisting of meaty foods, algae-based foods, and marine-based frozen foods like mysis shrimp and finely chopped seafood. With the right care and environment, the Raccoon Butterflyfish will add vibrant color and activity to any aquarium. Approximate Purchase Size: 3″ to 5″
