Description
The Blue Ribbon Eel is an eye-catching species, known for its vivid blue body with a striking yellow dorsal fin and accents around its mouth. This eel is unique in that it starts life as a juvenile female (which is black) and transforms into a male with this stunning blue and yellow coloration. It has a long, slender, ribbon-like body, hence its name.
While the Blue Ribbon Eel is peaceful and reef-safe, it is a challenging species to keep in an aquarium due to its specific needs. It requires a large tank with plenty of hiding spaces and a tightly secured lid to prevent escape. Feeding can be difficult, as it often refuses dead food, so a diet of live or frozen meaty items such as shrimp or fish is essential. This species is recommended for experienced aquarists due to its care requirements.
