Description
The Six Bar Angel is an impressive and beautiful species, known for its distinct six black vertical bars that run across its yellow body, accented with blue spots. Its dark face is contrasted with a striking white band, making this species a true standout in any aquarium. This large angelfish is both semi-aggressive and relatively hardy, making it a popular choice for experienced aquarists with large setups.
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, the Six Bar Angel thrives in well-established aquariums with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter. While it may nip at soft corals and some invertebrates, careful monitoring allows it to coexist in reef environments. A varied diet consisting of marine algae, spirulina, and meaty foods like shrimp will ensure its vibrant coloration and long-term health.
Due to its size, reaching up to 15 inches, this angelfish requires a spacious tank of at least 180 gallons. It should be housed with similarly sized tank mates, as its semi-aggressive nature may cause issues with smaller or more passive species.
