Description
The Tiger Pistol Shrimp (Alpheus bellulus) is a fascinating shrimp species known for its symbiotic relationship with gobies. It uses its powerful claw to produce a loud “snap,” which can stun prey or act as a defense mechanism. In the wild and aquarium settings, the Tiger Pistol Shrimp often pairs with a goby, sharing a burrow for protection, with the goby keeping watch while the shrimp builds and maintains the shelter. This shrimp thrives in a reef environment and will help keep the tank clean by scavenging for food. It is generally peaceful and does well with other tank inhabitants but can become territorial if paired with its symbiotic goby. Diet includes frozen and flake foods, including brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and small pieces of marine flesh. Approximate Purchase Size: 1″ to 1.5″
