Description
The Tropical Flounder (Bothus lunatus) is a fascinating bottom-dwelling species, known for its incredible camouflage abilities. This flatfish has a unique body shape and a color pattern that allows it to blend seamlessly with the sandy substrate and rocky environments of the Indo-Pacific and Caribbean reefs. Its body is covered in blue spots and intricate patterns that help it remain nearly invisible to predators and prey alike. Tropical Flounders are peaceful fish and can cohabit with other non-aggressive species. However, caution is required in reef tanks as they may prey on smaller invertebrates or fish that fit into their mouth. These flounders prefer tanks with sandy bottoms where they can bury themselves for camouflage, and they require ample open space for movement. As a carnivore, the Tropical Flounder feeds on small fish, shrimp, and other meaty marine fare. It should be provided with a varied diet of live or frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood. With the right care and feeding regimen, this flounder will thrive in a well-established marine aquarium. Approximate Purchase Size: 4″ to 6″
