Description
The Adorned Wrasse is a beautifully patterned fish with vibrant orange, yellow, and blue streaks running along its body. This species also features distinct “eye spots” on its dorsal fin, which act as a deterrent to predators. The Adorned Wrasse is a striking addition to aquariums but requires specific care and attention to thrive.
Known for being semi-aggressive, it is best housed with tank mates that are similarly sized or slightly larger and can hold their own. Though reef-compatible, it should be kept with caution as it may pick at invertebrates, such as shrimp or small crustaceans, in reef setups.
This carnivorous species enjoys a varied diet that includes meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other small marine prey. It is active, inquisitive, and can burrow into the sand when startled or to rest, so a tank with a soft substrate and plenty of hiding spots is ideal for the Adorned Wrasse.
