Description
The African Pompano is a large, striking fish known for its metallic silver sheen and elongated filaments extending from its dorsal and anal fins. This fish is prized by aquarists for its graceful appearance, especially the long flowing fins that give it a unique look in open-water tanks.
African Pompanos are peaceful by nature but require ample swimming space due to their active lifestyle and large size. They are not considered reef-safe, as they may disturb smaller fish or prey on invertebrates in a reef setup.
As carnivores, African Pompanos thrive on a diet of meaty foods, such as shrimp, squid, and other marine organisms. A large tank with open swimming areas and strong water flow is essential to support their active behavior. Due to their size and swimming needs, they are best suited for advanced aquarists with access to a very large marine aquarium setup.
