Description
The Clown Wrasse (Adult) (Coris aygula) is a striking species of wrasse that undergoes significant color changes as it matures. In its adult form, the fish features an orange head, a white stripe, and a predominantly green body with black spots, making it visually captivating. This wrasse is native to the Indo-Pacific and is often seen foraging among coral reefs and sandy bottoms.
The Clown Wrasse is semi-aggressive and best kept in large tanks with plenty of live rock and sand for burrowing. It requires a well-established tank to feel secure, as it tends to bury itself in the sand when startled. Due to its size and potential for aggressive behavior, it should be housed with other similarly sized or more robust tankmates.
As a carnivore, the Clown Wrasse feeds on a diet rich in meaty foods such as shrimp, mollusks, and small fish. It may also eat small invertebrates, making it a challenge for reef tanks, especially those with delicate corals or small crustaceans.
While it can be kept in a reef tank, caution should be taken due to its tendency to prey on invertebrates. It is better suited for fish-only or carefully monitored setups.
With its vibrant coloration and energetic personality, the Clown Wrasse (Adult) is a fascinating and active addition to large, well-maintained marine aquariums.
