Description
The Fire Shrimp (Lysmata debelius), also known as the Blood Red Fire Shrimp or Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, is a stunning addition to any reef tank due to its vibrant red coloration and white antennae. Its brilliant red body with white spots makes it a visually appealing invertebrate for both small and large aquariums. Fire Shrimp are peaceful creatures and are reef safe, making them ideal for community tanks. They often act as cleaners, removing parasites and dead skin from fish, contributing to the overall health of the tank’s inhabitants. Despite being shy, they can form cleaning stations where fish come to be cleaned. These shrimp prefer hiding during the day and become more active in the evening. They are omnivores and will accept a diet that includes a variety of meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp, as well as some algae and other detritus. Fire Shrimp are generally compatible with other peaceful invertebrates and fish, but they may become territorial with other shrimp species, especially in smaller tanks.
