Description
The Horn Shark (Heterodontus francisci) is a slow-moving, bottom-dwelling shark native to the rocky reefs and kelp forests of the Pacific Ocean. Known for its blunt head, small horn-like ridges, and distinctive black spots, the Horn Shark is a unique and challenging species suitable for experienced aquarists. With a maximum size of 4 feet, it requires a large, dedicated tank of at least 300 gallons.
This species is semi-aggressive and should be kept with similarly sized, robust tank mates. Due to its diet, which consists mainly of crustaceans, mollusks, and small fish, it is not reef-compatible. Horn Sharks thrive on a carnivorous diet that includes shrimp, squid, and other meaty seafood items. This species prefers cooler water and a dimly lit, spacious tank with plenty of hiding places to replicate its natural environment.
