Description
The Masked Bannerfish (Heniochus monoceros), sometimes known as the Unicornfish, is a distinctive and striking species commonly found in the Indo-Pacific. It features contrasting black and white bands on its body, paired with bright yellow fins. A key feature is its “masked” face, which gives this species its unique and recognizable look. The Masked Bannerfish is a peaceful species, making it an excellent choice for community aquariums with other non-aggressive tankmates. In reef tanks, the Masked Bannerfish should be monitored as it may nip at soft corals and small invertebrates, so it is considered “reef compatible with caution.” This species requires a well-established aquarium with plenty of open swimming space and rock formations for hiding. As an omnivore, the Masked Bannerfish enjoys a varied diet of both meaty foods like mysis shrimp and finely chopped seafood, as well as plant-based foods. This balanced diet will help maintain its health and vibrant coloration. Due to its moderate care level, it is best suited for intermediate aquarists. Approximate Purchase Size: 3″ to 6″
