Description
The Orange Spotted Blenny (Blenniella chrysospilos), also known as the Red-spotted Blenny, is a peaceful and strikingly colorful marine fish with a white body covered in vibrant orange spots. This small, herbivorous fish is perfect for reef tanks and is well known for its lively personality and engaging behavior. Its characteristic perching on rocks or “scooting” across the sand substrate makes it an entertaining addition to any marine aquarium.
This species is ideal for beginner aquarists due to its hardy nature and easy care requirements. It thrives in well-established reef aquariums with plenty of live rock for grazing. The Orange Spotted Blenny primarily feeds on algae, which makes it a beneficial member of the tank as it helps control unwanted algae growth.
Although generally peaceful, it may display territorial behavior toward other blennies or similar-looking species. It is recommended to keep only one Orange Spotted Blenny per tank unless the aquarium is very large with ample hiding spots.
Due to its reef-safe nature, this blenny will not harm corals or other invertebrates, making it a great choice for a reef community setup. Ensure it has a diet rich in plant-based foods, such as algae-based flake or frozen foods, to keep it healthy and vibrant.
