Description
The Oriental Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus vittatus) is a stunning and active species of fish that displays a striking pattern of black, white, and yellow markings, especially during its juvenile phase, when it has large white spots on a black background. As it matures, the pattern changes to black stripes running along its elongated body. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, this fish is a peaceful addition to larger marine aquariums but requires a lot of swimming space due to its eventual size. This species thrives in well-established aquariums with plenty of open water for swimming and rockwork for hiding. It is moderately reef-compatible but can potentially nip at small invertebrates. Care should be taken when placing it in reef tanks. Oriental Sweetlips are generally peaceful and can be kept with other large, non-aggressive tankmates. As a carnivore, the Oriental Sweetlips prefers a diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and chopped fish. It requires a varied and frequent feeding schedule, especially as a juvenile, to ensure proper growth and vibrant coloration. Approximate Purchase Size: 2″ to 4″ (juvenile)
