Description
The Pithos Crab is a small and highly effective algae eater, making it a valuable addition to marine aquariums, particularly those facing algae growth issues. This crab is known for its peaceful temperament and its ability to control various types of algae, including hair algae and other nuisance algae types. Its compact size and natural camouflage help it blend into its surroundings, often hiding among live rock during the day. The Pithos Crab is reef-safe and can cohabitate peacefully with most tankmates, including corals and other invertebrates. It is a hardy species that thrives in well-established aquariums with stable water conditions. It also plays an important role in maintaining a clean aquarium by grazing on algae. As an herbivore, the Pithos Crab requires a diet rich in plant matter. In addition to the algae it naturally grazes on, it may also benefit from supplemental feeding of dried seaweed or algae-based foods if the natural algae supply is insufficient.
