Description
The Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura) is a small, peaceful fish known for its distinct tail spot, giving it its name. Its body is slender, with a mix of brown and tan coloration, and a prominent dark spot near the tail fin, which adds to its unique appearance. The Tail Spot Blenny also features subtle facial markings, including bright blue and orange accents around the eyes.
This fish is a popular choice for nano reef tanks due to its small size, peaceful temperament, and algae-grazing habits. Tail Spot Blennies are active swimmers and spend a significant amount of time perched on rocks, monitoring their surroundings.
Their diet primarily consists of algae, making them excellent for algae control in the aquarium. Supplemental feeding with algae-based flakes, pellets, and blanched vegetables like spinach or nori is recommended if the tank lacks enough natural algae.
These blennies are reef-safe and can be kept with other peaceful tank mates, but they may become territorial toward other blennies or similarly shaped fish. Their small size and easy care make them an excellent choice for beginners or those with smaller reef tanks.
