These streaks give the scallop the appearance of producing electric flashes, which make it a spectacular sight in any reef setup. However, this beauty comes with a high level of care, making it suitable only for experienced hobbyists.

The Electric Flame Scallop is a filter feeder, meaning it relies on capturing fine particulate matter from the water column. In its natural environment, it feeds on phytoplankton and other microscopic organisms, which need to be provided in a home aquarium to sustain it. Its diet can be supplemented with specialized liquid foods, like marine snow and plankton-based feeds. Maintaining a consistent food supply in a mature, well-established tank is essential for its long-term health.

In terms of behavior, this scallop is peaceful and poses no threat to other tank inhabitants. It is reef compatible and can coexist with corals and invertebrates without causing harm. However, it tends to prefer secluded areas with low light and moderate water flow. Providing plenty of hiding spaces within live rock crevices will help mimic its natural habitat.
