Description
The Tiger Jawfish (Opistognathus sp.) is an attractive burrowing fish with a distinctive tiger-like pattern of brown and yellow bands. This species is known for its peaceful nature and interesting behavior of digging and hiding in sandy substrate. It spends much of its time in and around its burrow but will often come out to inspect its surroundings.
As a carnivore, the Tiger Jawfish thrives on a diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other finely chopped meaty foods. This species requires a soft sandy substrate with plenty of space for burrowing. It’s generally considered reef-safe, but it needs a well-established tank to prevent stress. With proper care, this stunning fish can be a fantastic addition to a community reef tank.
